The Lineage of the Bow
English longbows were traditionally crafted from yew wood — a material uniquely suited for bow making because its heartwood and sapwood work together to create both compression strength and tension flexibility. This natural construction allows the bow to store enormous energy and deliver powerful arrows across great distances.
Every longbow requires careful wood selection and patience. The wood must mature naturally before it can be shaped. Only a small percentage of yew trees possess the grain structure required for bow making. For this reason traditional longbows require many months of preparation before construction begins.
A longbow is not manufactured. It is revealed from the wood.
