Gukgung: Traditional Korean Archery

Align your spirit and frame within the deep meditative discipline of the classical Korean bow.

The Mind-Body Alignment

Gukgung (historically known as Gungdo) is treated less as a standard target sport and more as an internal meditative crucible. Practitioners step into position following the core tenet of Jeongsin Tongil - the absolute unification of mental concentration.Every arrow release acts as a direct diagnostic blueprint of the archer's internal state. If the target is missed, the master looks only within their own posture, never blaming exterior elements.

The Gakgung (Water Buffalo Horn Bow)

The highly refined Korean composite bow (Gakgung) combines water buffalo horn, bamboo, oak, and cow sinew bonded entirely with wild fish-bladder glues. When unstrung, the bow bends backward into a striking circular frame configuration.

This massive reflex architecture delivers phenomenal force, allowing the short bow to consistently engage standardized traditional targets set at 145 meters.

The Principles of Training

Traditional training pavilions enforce strict codes of personal discipline, respect for senior instructors, and clean environment rules.

Gungdo Gyubum (Core Tenets)

A sacred manual dictating proper behavior, including maintaining silent focus, standing tall like a mountain, and retaining clean thoughts.

The Open Full Draw

Gukgung utilizes a deep draw past the ear, anchoring the breath beneath the center of gravity (Danjeon) before executing a clean release.
