The Korean Gakgung is one of the most technically refined composite bows in the world. Korean traditional archery — Gungdo — is one of the longest continuously practiced archery traditions in existence, and the Gakgung is its defining instrument.

Key Features

  • Historically inspired design from the Korean tradition
  • Compact and powerful reflexed profile
  • Optimized for thumb draw technique
  • Handcrafted laminated construction for durability
  • Suitable for mounted archery and traditional field shooting

The Lineage of the Bow

Built from water buffalo horn, bamboo, sinew and mulberry wood, the Gakgung stores extraordinary energy in an extremely compact form. When braced, the bow reflexes almost completely — a testament to the tension built into its construction.

Korean archery survived centuries of military change, colonial periods and modernization to remain a living tradition practiced today. The Gakgung is not a historical artifact. It is an active instrument in a continuous line of practice.

The Gakgung does not yield. Neither does the tradition it carries.

My philosophy is rooted in the balance of respect. Respect for the natural wood, respect for the ancient geometry of the horse bow, and respect for the modern archer's need for consistency. Every limb is shaped by hand, every riser is polished until the soul of the wood reveals itself."
