The Arctic Inuit Bow represents one of the most remarkable achievements in traditional bow making. In an environment where wood is scarce and temperatures make most conventional materials brittle, Inuit craftsmen developed composite bow technology using driftwood, bone, antler and sinew lashing — an extraordinary solution to an extraordinary challenge.

Key Features

  • Inspired by indigenous archery traditions
  • Handcrafted using traditional construction principles
  • Reflects deep ecological and cultural knowledge
  • Unique design rooted in living archery traditions

The Lineage of the Bow

The backing of sinew lashing, bound tightly under tension around the bow, compensates for the weakness of available wood and creates a composite structure of surprising power. The compact design suits the conditions of Arctic hunting — shooting from kayaks, on ice or in confined spaces.

Inuit bow making is a testament to the ingenuity of human craftsmanship in the face of environmental constraint. Where other bow traditions had access to ideal materials, Inuit bowyers had to create those properties from what the Arctic provided.

The bow does not require perfect materials. It requires a perfect understanding of what is available.

My philosophy is rooted in the balance of respect. Respect for the natural wood, respect for the ancient geometry of the horse bow, and respect for the modern archer's need for consistency. Every limb is shaped by hand, every riser is polished until the soul of the wood reveals itself."
