Overview

Mongolia is one of the historical heartlands of traditional archery and steppe culture. For centuries nomadic riders crossed the vast grasslands of Central Asia using the bow as an essential tool for survival, hunting, and warfare.

This expedition explores the landscapes and traditions that shaped one of the most remarkable archery cultures in history. Participants practice traditional archery while experiencing the natural environment and living traditions of the Mongolian steppe.

The program focuses on cultural understanding, outdoor exploration, and traditional archery practice rather than mass tourism.

Environment & Preparation

Geography

Region: Mongolia
Season: July (Naadam Festival) / Summer
Terrain: Vast open grasslands, river valleys like the Orkhon, volcanic regions including Khorgo, and remote mountain wilderness.
Climate: Variable weather conditions; requires adaptable clothing for open terrain.

Travel & Gear

Arrival: Ulaanbaatar
Travel Notes: Base located in Kharkhorin. Organized horse trips and cultural tours are included through experienced local partners.
Preparation: Basic physical readiness for outdoor activity, walking in natural terrain, and horseback riding.
Equiptment Note: Traditional bows only. Familiarity with traditional archery equipment is required.
